He signed on to the Titanic Engine Crew at Southampton as a fireman/stoker (Engine Crew No. 44). He left the Titanic on collapsible lifeboat C at 1.40am 15th April, the lifeboat arrived at the Carpathis for rescue at 6.30am. He disembarked at New York on Thursday 18th April 1912. The lifeboat also carried Bruce Ismay, Director of the White Star Line
